5-Year Strategic Plan

Goals & Objectives

Note: aligned with goals and objectives in FSU’s Strategic Plan

  1. Strengthen and Expand Interdisciplinary Research (Academic & Research Excellence—FSU Goal 2)
    1. Strengthen and expand interdisciplinary research among FCRR faculty and with partner disciplines across FSU.
      1. Facilitate collaborations between FCRR core, affiliate, and specialized faculty.
      2. Facilitate collaborations between FCRR faculty and faculty in current and new partner disciplines (e.g., Translational Researchers).
      3. Increase interdisciplinary grant funding with current and new partner disciplines.
      4. Increase funding to support expansion and sustainability of the center through diverse funding streams internal and external to the university.
    2. Strengthen and expand local, national, and international research and public engagement activities to improve faculty and partners’ capacity to do research and apply evidence.
    3. Strengthen interdisciplinary research and training activities:
      1. Provide formal and informal interdisciplinary research and training opportunities for doctoral students, postbaccalaureate students, postdocs, and core, affiliate, and specialized faculty.
      2. Increase funding support for doctoral students and postdocs, especially in disciplines typically not well funded (e.g., education; social work).
  2. Strengthen and Expand Innovation & Dissemination to Facilitate Implementation and Impact of Interdisciplinary Research (Entrepreneurship & Innovation—FSU Goal 1)
    1. Strengthen and expand communication and dissemination activities:
      1. Partner with organizations internal and external to FSU to create communication plans, dissemination tools, and activities for projects and initiatives that align with the purpose, mission, and vision of FCRR.
      2. Provide workshops and trainings to increase faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized), doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff capacity to communicate scientific evidence effectively to diverse stakeholder groups.
      3. Increase awareness and use of the Innovative Research Dissemination Lab across FCRR and FSU academic (e.g., colleges, departments) and research (e.g., research centers) units.
    2. Strengthen and expand public engagement activities:
      1. Create structured partnerships with diverse entities internal and external to FSU to support reading achievement, school readiness, and school success for all learners, and in particular among vulnerable children and youth.
      2. Create opportunities for public engagement for faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized), doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff (e.g., volunteers; work study; Great Give; community events, open house).
      3. Produce original rigorous and relevant research that addresses partners’ pressing educational needs, in alignment with FCRR’s purpose, mission, and vision.
      4. Increase awareness and use of The Village Division across FCRR and FSU academic (e.g., colleges, departments) and research (e.g., research centers) units.
    3. Strengthen and expand innovation activities:
      1. Foster intraprenuership (i.e., innovation within the university) among FCRR faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized), doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff (e.g., creating tools, apps, interventions).
      2. Foster entrepreneurship among FCRR faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized), doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff (e.g., intellectual property dissemination via options and licenses).
      3. Increase awareness and use of the Quantitative Methodology and Innovation Division across FCRR and FSU academic (e.g., colleges, departments) and research (e.g., research centers) units.
  3. Increase Diversity and Inclusion of FCRR Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Activities to Facilitate Implementation and Impact of Interdisciplinary Research (Diversity & Inclusion—FSU Goal 3)
    1. Increase the number of doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized) from groups traditionally underrepresented in reading and reading-related research, specifically race- and ethnic-minority groups, 1st generation graduate students, and individuals with disabilities.
    2. Increase participation of members of targeted groups traditionally underrepresented in academia in FCRR leadership, research, innovation, and dissemination activities.
    3. Increase participation of FCRR doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and faculty (core, affiliate, and specialized) in research, innovation, and dissemination activities that are inclusive of and responsive to the needs of targeted vulnerable populations and communities.
  4. Maximize Organizational Effectiveness to Facilitate Implementation and Impact of Interdisciplinary Research (Excellence and Reputation—FSU Goal 6)
    1. Maximize the organizational effectiveness of the unit’s administrative structure:
      1. Standardize and streamline operational tasks, administrative functions, internal and external communications, organizational workflows, and processes while meeting the specific fiscal, administrative, IT, and HR needs of all stakeholders.
      2. Increase staff’s knowledge and awareness of research, innovation, and dissemination activities across the unit.
    2. Conduct periodic external review of control processes to ensure the integrity of the fiscal, administrative, IT, and HR systems and to minimize the risk of irregularities and audit criticisms.
    3. Maximize the organizational effectiveness of the unit’s academic structure to ensure alignment with purpose, vision, and mission of FCRR.
