Determining Instructional Level and Conducting Ongoing Progress Monitoring (OPM)
Ongoing Progress Monitoring allows a teacher to document progress in reaching the benchmark goals in the critical components of reading. For those students who are receiving immediate intensive intervention (iii) it is best practice to determine instructional level and do more frequent monitoring of their progress to get snapshots of their performance. A Power Point Presentation for professional development is available to provide an overview of and the steps involved in determining instructional level and conducting ongoing progress monitoring. In addition, a resource guide is downloadable from this website.
District Level Use: To provide an overview on the procedures for implementing OPM, district staff may use the Power Point presentation and the resource guide. DIBELS facilitators train teachers on the scoring and administration procedures.
School Level Use: Coaches or other district staff can build the capacity of teachers by providing professional development on the use of ongoing progress monitoring. Teachers will receive DIBELS training on the measures that apply to their grade level.
