The teacher should provide intensive comprehension strategy instruction to the students who demonstrate a breakdown in comprehension. The breakdown in comprehension will be evidenced by the incorrect responses of the student(s) in the after reading activities. The whole class, small groups or individual students should then be provided intensive comprehension strategy instruction for that particular strategy. The instruction is most beneficial if the same text is used to reteach the particular strategy. This instruction should be explicit, modeled by the teacher, practiced by the student with guidance, and applied independently.
