Kindergarten Group 2

Group 2 should be working on advanced phonemic awareness activities such as blending and segmenting sounds. You should be able to immediately begin activities that involve using letters to represent the sounds in words. Remember that these students are also likely to need extra support in the development of vocabulary and comprehension. So, when working with real words, it is important to ensure they know their meanings. As with Group 1, your goal is to be sure the students in this group catch up quickly with the scope and sequence of activities in your core program. This applies particularly to their knowledge of letter sounds and phonemic decoding skills. Ongoing progress monitoring may also be helpful in determining how quickly these students are improving in their phonemic awareness abilities (PSF) and letter-sound knowledge (NWF).
