A Florida State University Center

Kindergarten Group 2

Group 2 has five students, and for the most part, they are further along in the development of phonemic awareness (ISF, PSF) and letter knowledge (LNF, NWF) than the students in Group 1. In this group, the phonemic awareness skills of the students may be different from one another. We can determine this by looking at the scores on one measure of phonemic awareness (PSF). Three of the students are at "high risk", while two of the students are at grade level on this measure. It will be important to understand the different needs of these students and plan for those needs in your instruction. Once you answer the highlighted guiding questions below, you will get a better idea of where to begin instruction for each student. The additional questions are provided if you want to learn more about the needs of these students in the other instructional areas.
