A Florida State University Center

Kindergarten Group 1

Group 1 is your smallest and most intensive instructional group. Sean and David are both seriously below grade level in the development of their knowledge about letters (LNF, NWF) and in their phonemic awareness (ISF, PSF). Most likely, they are also behind in vocabulary and comprehension skills, so you should integrate instruction and activities that build word meanings while you are working on their phonemic awareness and phonics. In order to plan your instruction for these students, you need to know a little more about their level of development in phonemic awareness and letter knowledge. You can get this knowledge as you answer the highlighted guiding questions below. The additional questions are provided if you want to learn more about the needs of these students in the other instructional areas.
