Kindergarten 90+ Minute Reading Block Schedule
Always keep in mind that small group time should be utilized solely for reading instruction (e.g., teaching letter-sound correspondence, writing letters and words, blending and segmenting sounds, vocabulary, and listening comprehension). Whole group instruction should include all of the elements of reading and language arts: vocabulary, oral language, writing, phonemic awareness, and phonics. The balance of instructional time between whole group and small group instruction will change, depending on the needs of your students. The small group instruction is specifically adapted to the needs of the students in each group, and should concentrate on those elements that are most critical to help the student meet grade level standards.
