Eastern Regional Reading First Technical Assistance Center (ERFFTAC)


The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a five-year contract to the RMC Research Corporation to establish the National Center for Reading First Technical Assistance (NCRFTA). The National Center consists of three regional centers located at The University of Oregon, The University of Texas, and Florida State University with RMC Research Corporation serving as the national coordinator. As the Eastern Regional Technical Assistance Center (ERRFTAC) provides services to 17 states and 2 territories that have received Reading First grants. Services provided include professional development, product development, and consultative services. The National Center works with states, districts, and schools who have received Reading First funds; services are coordinated through each state's Reading First Director.

The Eastern Regional Reading First Technical Assistance Center is part of Florida Center for Reading Research. Established in 2002, the Florida Center for Reading Research has a four part mission: conduct scientifically based research in reading to increase the general knowledge base about the reading process, reading development, assessment, and instruction; use high quality research methods to generate specific knowledge to assist Florida to more effectively teach all children to read well by third grade; disseminate research based information about reading assessment and instruction to districts, schools, and teachers in Florida; and provide leadership to guide the implementation of Florida´s Reading First Grant.
