(a) state the letter name represented by the individual letter, and
(b) identify the letter associated with the letter name

(a) say the sound (phoneme) represented by the individual letter, and
(b) identify the letter associated with its sound (individual phoneme)

(a) blend two known letter sounds to form a simple word, and
(b) blend three known letter sounds to form a simple word
