Second Grade Group 2




Group 2 consists of four students. In the sample reading block schedule, this group is scheduled for small group instruction fifteen to twenty-five minutes a day. Their scores indicate that they are at high risk of not reaching the oral reading fluency benchmark for second grade. Like Group 1, Group 2 is in need of immediate intensive intervention outside of the reading block. These students are further along in the development of letter-sound relationships (NWF), but their performance in oral reading fluency (ORF) is comparable to that of Group 1. It is likely that the students are in need of instruction in the alphabetic principle as well as in reading words with more advanced phonics elements. Additional assessment data and classroom observations will help you to determine which skills need to be taught and which need to be practiced in small group.
