In every assessment period, each test has a “target”, which is an interim goal. During successive periods, the target rises. If a student reaches the “target”, this indicates that the student is on track to achieve the benchmark for that skill which occurs at some later point. If the student’s score is below the “target”, it indicates the student needs intervention. The further below the “target”, the greater the need for intensity of instructional intervention.
