Professional Development
The Director of Professional Development has oversight for the development, implementation, and supervision of Reading First school site visits
and follow-up reports as part of the overall plan to evaluate the professional development component of Reading First. This department coordinates
a statewide team of reading specialists who are selected and trained to collect classroom and school data about reading instruction.
The director’s assistant also works as a team member, inputting data and formatting the school and district follow-up reports.
The director works with Reading First Professional Development at University of Central Florida to insure that Reading First training reflects
current standards for effective professional development. The development and implementation of Guidelines for Reviewing Professional Development
Programs in Reading is also a responsibility of this department. Providing direction in the development and implementation of tools such as the
Reading Coach’s Log on the PMRN system to support Reading First goals is an additional task for the professional development director.
She also develops and delivers training such as the Site Visit Reviewer Training, provides technical assistance, supports the Just Read,
Florida! Office and its initiatives; and delivers presentations regarding Reading First professional development at meetings and conferences.
